Superheroes, Wrestling belt, dance offs and lifelong friendships are the best words to sum up the Portland, Maine Summer wedding we did last weekend. It was fun and full of energy from the first moment! This crew knows how to party and continued to do so even as the party décor was being removed at the end of the night. When we at DNA Photography captured Ben and Brittany’s engagement shoot we had no idea how much excitement would be in store for us on their special day. It was evident that these two high school sweethearts are well loved and surrounded by an amazing support system.
After spending a short time with the ladies as they prepared for the day we headed over to Samuel Wilde Memorial Chapel in Portland to do our reveal. It was a toasty day that reached close to 90 degrees. Ben stood under the magnificent stone arches of the chapel as Brittany made her way to him. She slowly approached him and when she became close enough tapped him on the shoulder. He slowly turned and faced her, then spun her around as he wanted to take in his bride-to-be in her stunning wedding dress.
When possible we love to shoot as many formal photo combinations before the wedding. This allows for a shortened photo time after the ceremony and gets the wedding party to the reception sooner so that they can dance the night away. Once we had a comfortable number of formals under our belt, Ben and Brittany parted ways and mentally prepared for their ceremony.
The ceremony was a very touching one and performed by Brittany’s oldest sister. During the ceremony we witnessed a braiding ritual in which our bride and groom weaved three cords into a God’s Knot. The knot represents the joining of a man, a woman and God. The premise of the knot is to keep God at the center of your marriage and by doing so His love will continue to bind you together as one throughout the marriage.
This may be an up and coming tradition with many couples but this was the first time we at DNA Photography had been able to capture it in a wedding. We do a fair share of Maine weddings and always love discovering new things for us to photograph while capturing our couple’s day.
The reception was held at Keeley’s Banquet Center in Portland where I am sure the wedding attendants were more than happy to get out of the sun. Once the hydration practices were underway, DJ Chris Gordon of Double Platinum Celebrations started playing his tunes and the crowd quickly found their second wind. This crew was a blast to capture on the dance floor and in the open-air photo booth. There may have had one, two or maybe even 10 amazing dancers in their mix that I hear, for a price, will come and get your wedding hopping! This was easily some of the best dance-off action we have seen at a wedding!
We loved every minute of this amazing union and might actually hire on a few of these dancers for our own wedding festivities next year! Here are a handful of our favorite captures of this Samuel Wilde Memorial Chapel wedding.
